MATLAB Simulations for Radar Systems Design is a complete source for learning radar design and analysis that also provides MATLAB M-files and hands-on simulation experience. Readers will gain a strong understanding of radar operations and design philosophy, know how to select parameters to meet design requirements, be able to perform trade-off analyses, and learn how to develop loss and error budgets. The authors' unique approach involves following a single case study throughout the text. They also present a section of specialized radar topics important to a full understanding of the subject. A comprehensive set of MATLAB files supports the book. These files are available for download from the CRC Press Web site.

From the Back Cover
Simulation is integral to the successful design of modern radar systems, and there is arguably no better software for this purpose than MATLAB. But software and the ability to use it does not guarantee success. One must also:
Ö Understand radar operations and design philosophy
Ö Know how to select the radar parameters to meet the design requirements
Ö Be able to perform detailed trade-off analysis in the context of radar sizing, modes of operation, frequency selection, waveforms, and signal processing
Ö Develop loss and error budgets associated with the design
MATLAB Simulations for Radar Systems Design teaches all of this and provides the M-files and hands-on simulation experience needed to design and analyze radar systems. Part I forms a comprehensive description of radar systems, their analysis, and the design process. The authors' unique approach involves a design case study introduced in Chapter 1 and followed throughout the text. As the treatment progresses, the complexity increases and the case study requirements are adjusted accordingly. Part II presents a series of chapters-some authored by other experts in the field-on specialized radar topics important to a full understanding of radar systems design and analysis.
A comprehensive set of MATLAB programs and functions support both parts of the book and are available for download from the CRC Press Web site.

interesting but descriptive
This is a very useful companion book to other radar texts like Skolnik or Barton - although the latter now comes with Mathcad demos as well and has more serious coverage.
On the positive side: you can download the software from Mathworks and everything runs smoothly over Matlab 7, no problem at all, eventhe GUIs. So this is really plug and play. The examples are relatively good illustrations of a number of things.
The part on phased arrays is useful, it has a good GUI and produces nice 3D patterns.
Negative: the part on signal processing (MTI, CFAR) is very weak and I was hoping to have something on doppler filter banks: it is mentioned in the text and also in the SAR chapter ... but there is no Matlab code for that. Disappointment. Generally the chapter on detection is just descriptive: numerical examples are given but there is no real discussion on the meaning of the results.
So this is a very good book if you have one of the standars at hand for the groundwork discussions.
