Average customer review:Product Description
Focusing on the important role that statistical methods play in the analysis of the data collected as well as in the overall clinical trial process, Introduction to Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials provides a concise and accessible introduction to clinical trials. This second edition features new and updated references, examples, exercises, and material on binary outcomes and survival analysis. It features numerous real examples taken from The Lancet, includes exercises at the end of the chapter, and offers solutions in an appendix. Ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, the author uses Minitab and R software throughout the text for implementing the methods presented.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"This remarkably well written book is both concise and thorough in covering the material that it chooses to present. Both statistical concepts and medical examples are explained in clear prose. This is the sort of book that I wish I had had when I first learned about clinical trials. . . . I particularly like Matthews' thoughtful philosophy, which carefully balances the many statistical and medical concerns in the design and analysis of clinical trials. . . . The exercises at the end of each chapter are quite helpful for testing the reader's understanding, and thorough solutions are given in the back of the book. . . . In a sea of overpriced textbooks, it is well worth the low price . . . this book will provide readers with a broad statistical foundation and hopefully whet their interest to learn m ore about clinical trials." -- JASA

Customer Reviews
It was very useful
I thought the book explained randonised controlled clinical trials excellently. I am doing a course in medical statistics and the book tied in very well. There is a lot of background explained in the first few chapters and then it gets on to the trials and although it is a text book it relates the theory to the real world.
