A beautiful and sad tale
This is such a beautiful story and along with the Selfish Giant, 2 wonderful books by the great Oscar Wilde.
I cry everytime I read this book and I am in my 30s!!! Its a book for children and adults and is a story that never ages.
I would definately recommend this if you love fairy tales and beautiful sentimental stories, but dont let that description put you off as I believe this is a book that should be read by everyone.
I remember seeing a cartoon version of this and the Selfish Giant when I was a little girl but have never seen this since or has it been put on dvd, which is a real shame. I hope someone somewhere decides to do it one day as they certainly made an impression on me and I am sure children of today would also love to see them.
