Product Description

When things run smoothly, using your computer can appear the easiest thing in the world ... but when something inexplicably goes wrong no amount of frantic tapping away on the keyboard seems to make any difference. Now, at last, clear and sensible help is at hand.

Boot Up Rescue is the latest in Rick Maybury's highly successful series of everyday-language guides to PC ownership and use, focussing exclusively on the Microsoft Windows operating system and in particular dealing with Windows 95, 98 and ME. He has identified the main culprits commonly responsible for PC meltdown and provides step-to-step advice on how to track down and fix the most likely glitches. Topics covered include:

„h the horrors that can occur at the switching on and off stages
„h performing CPR on a PC that refuses to boot or load Windows
„h deciphering the seemingly incomprehensible error messages
„h avoiding nasty infections from viruses and administering an antidote if you get one
„h cleaning up your hardware and software to help prevent disaster

Boot Up Rescue offers straightforward, practical adviceon how to overcome the most frustrating of PC experiences. Each chapter ends in a series of Q&As based on the real-world problems the author addresses in his popular column for The Daily Telegraph. In addition, Boot Up Rescue also provides 100 Top Tips for PC use and an extensive Glossary.

How not to be scared of the dreaded blue Screen !!!5
I work in a Library and lots of computer books pass through my hands..... But this is the first time I have actually read one from cover to cover without glazing over and falling asleep!!!

Ideal for people who are comfortable with using a PC and find it very frustrating when they have to call in the repair person if the least little thing goes wrong with it..

There's lots of tools that come with Windows that you would never go looking for...

Dont know who this Dr Watson is that keeps giving you error messages........read page 119-121.....im now very familiar with him!!!!

The tone of the book was spot on, precise information in an easily read format without lots of technical jargon......

Lots of information on how to try and sort out things yourself without getting into too much trouble.......

Tricks and tips for using MS Word that even after using it for 8 yrs I didnt realise exsisted....!!!

Ive just spent an hour playing on the driving game I didnt even realise was hidden away in Excel 2000 !!!

So here I am on Amazon buying my own copy as I doubt I would be willing to return the Library copy!!!
