Product Description
Kathy's mother suffered a stroke during a routine medical test. Kathy was frustrated in her search for answers about her mother's prognosis. Slowly, her knowledge about patient's rights, living wills, and what to do when a patient's medical insurance and money run out, began to grow. She began to keep a journal of the things that she had learned. The journal turned into a book written for other baby boomers, like herself. As this large segment of the population ages, they face the difficult task of caring for their elderly parents. Long-term healthcare has an exorbitant price tag, both financially and emotionally.
This is also a touching, personal story of Kathy and her brother. They found that the more their mother needed them; the more they needed each other.

Editorial Reviews
From the Author
When the nurse at the hospital called to tell me that my mother has suffered a slight stroke, I was not too alarmed. However, they were wrong and the stroke was massive. I was thrust into a world of doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, and dealing with a mother with brain damage. Each day was a challenge. The one bit of info that I found and pass along to each person that I talk to is this. Did you know that your medical insurance (no matter how good or expensive) will only cover 100 days in a nursing home and then you are on your own? Nursing home care costs in a range between $5,000 - $9,000 per MONTH.
