Second Book in the Series5

I guess I am a bit of a sucker for novels on Ancient Rome so I was delighted when I found what was for me a new author who writes on that particular subject. This is the second book in the Gladiators of the Empire series. It is not the most technically correct book about gladiators that I have ever read, but then I did not expect it to be.

The book continues the story of Quintus Honorius Romanus, a legendary gladiator of Rome and it picks up the story in AD68, the emperor is dead and three contenders are vying for position, while this is going on civil unrest is starting to rear its head. Quintus and his friends, the beast hunter Lindani and the gladiator Amazonia, are forced to fight with the legionnaires of Rome in what is becoming a bloody and bitter civil war.

Everything lovers of this genre could ask for..superb5
Both this novel and the prequel,Sand of the arena constitute one of the most enjoyable reads I've had for a long time. I love this genre and read a lot of them and adored both these books. Mr Duffy's knowledge of the period and gladiators was obvious and set the scene beautifully for an high action story that at times took my breath away with it's relentless intensity and left me feeling quite exhausted. The action sequences, which to be fair take up most of the books are superbly written and well deserved praise is given here. I highly recommend to all, and if you liked the movie "Gladiator"..........well...believe me these books are better!
