The Way of the Green Witch
I tried to read this book some time ago but became annoyed with it and chucked it to the back of my wardrobe (probably never to be picked up again). But the other day I ran out of things to read and decided to give it another go, I'm glad I did because 'The Way of the Green Witch: Rituals, Spells and Practices to Bring You Back to Nature' is actually a great book. One which takes some getting used to, in terms of how its written, but I've found it to be rather helpful in many areas.
Arin Murphy-Hiscock has created a wonderful handbook for beginners who are interested in embarking upon the Green Witch path, and has done a great job putting together a clear and concise book which outlines the key components of Green Witchery -- one should note that the path depicted within this book is not a Wiccan based Green Witch path; rather, the one more correctly referred to when named as such.
Ms Murphy-Hiscock explains how one can construct their own Green Witch path which includes personal ways of observing the seasonal changes, erecting shrines, the elements of Green Witch ritual (which tends to be more loosely ritualistic), as well as the use of herbs, oils, incense, flowers, trees and crystals etc. 'The Way of the Green Witch' also provides some excellent (and simple!) exercises in which to sense energy of plants and the like, as well as some evocative meditations.
I very much enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a simple non-Wiccan based book about Green Witchcraft. It's packed with interesting information, practical techniques and informative chapters on what actually constitutes Green Witchery! For further reading on this topic, I would also recommend 'Green Spirituality' by Rosa Romani and 'Craft of the Wild Witch: Green Spirituality and Natural Enchantment' by Poppy Palin.
