In the future, wars will no longer be fought by men of flesh and blood. Instead, robots march forth into battle, to finish a job left half-done. It is not their war, not their cause, and yet they fight and die for the cause, heroes one and all. Hammerstein: the leader. Joe Pineapples: the ultimate assassin. Blackblood: the traitor. Mongrol: the killer machine. Deadlock: the crazed priest of Khaos. Mek-Quake: the coward. Ro-Jaws: the garbage eater. They are the Mek-Nificent Seven, they are the A.B.C Warriors - atomic, bacterial and chemical war robots, programmed for destruction - and this is their story.

The Best of 2000AD
A fine collection, printed on glossy paper and incorporating the extra pages of 'bookend' comic strip first commissioned for the original, 2-volume Titan reprint in the 1980s. The ABC Warriors are one of the better stories from the early years of the British comic 2000AD. The Warriors themselves are a band of combat robots designed to fight a war which ends almost as the series begins. Their adventures continue on the lawless planet Mars, charged with bringing order to chaos wherever they find it. The Warriors themselves are a diverse and fascinating bunch. Their adventures are lively, imaginative and violent, yet without resorting to the gratuitous levels of gore and smuttiness which have marred 2000AD ever since. The ABC Warriors is a powerful record of one of British comics' golden ages, when comics were fun to read; I hope we will see it's like again.
