Star Wars regulars John Ostrander (Star Wars: Clone Wars - Defense of Kamino) and Davide Fabbri and Christian Dalla Vecchia (Star Wars: Infinities -- The Empire Strikes Back) weave a new story set before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace! Iaco Stark, smuggler, pirate and rogue trader, has made bitter enemies of Nute Gunray and the Trade Federation. When Gunray joins forces with hardline elements of the Jedi-protected Republic in an effort to trap Stark, the pirate anticipates the ambush and suddenly the Jedi find themselves caught in a star-spanning war! Guest-starring such legends as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Mace Windu, Star Wars: The Stark Hyperspace War is a tale of intrigue and heroism on a galactic scale!

The Right Passage
'Star Wars: Rites of Passage' is, for want of a better word, Fantabulicious! The stylishness of the characters, environments and effects merely in terms of artistry is astounding, but the story itself is in no way lagging behind. As most people are, I prefer the original trilogy to the recent attempts (even though I can't wait for Episode III *yay!*) but 'Rites of Passage' manages to set itself within the realm of the New Trilogy, whilst keeping the atmosphere of the Original, y'see?
Whilst managing to combine atmospheric elements of the two trilogies, 'Rites of Passage' is also in a Realm of it's own, relying on the cut-throat dystopian culture the soon-to-be Empire is creating; not always shown quite so readily in the *Universal / PG* Cert'ed films. If you want to view this rather splendidly drawn dark background to the Star Wars Universe, whilst only tying in to the films slightly, then this is the graphic novel for you. If, however, you want Star Wars to remain a fairly innocent affair (why, oh why would you want to..?) then choose something else, like the Graphic Novel, 'Droids'... oh and if so, don't go to see Episode III.
