Absolutely Extraordinary
The concept of literary crossovers isn't a new one, even in Victorian literature as Sherlock Holmes himself refers to Poe's Dupin for example. But it has never been done in such a spectacular way as in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The volume 1 hardback collection was fantastic enough but now we have the Absolute Edition. HUGE pages with lushious colour quality, and a delightful story that holds up to hundreds of repeat readings as you try to locate all the different references (there's even one to EastEnders). And as if that weren't enough we also get all of Moore's scripts and directions, and an essay and previously unseen artwork by O'Neill in a second hard back book which gives amazing insight into the production of both the story and the art. Although spending over £price on a book may seem a little extravagant, The Absolute League... is utterly indespensible to anyone who likes comics or Victoriana or literature in general. I just can't say enough positive stuff about it. It's wonderfully splendid and luxurious.
Pure indulgence...
Well, this is simply a fabulous edition. I'm guessing if you're here you already know what this comic is all about, so it only remains for me to assure you that this is the best version you can buy.
If you like Leauge, and you've got the cash to splash on something so luxuriously indulgent, go for it.
Extraordinary!
This is another masterpiece as expected from Alan Moore. I'm sure you're already familiar with the concept of the League... so I won't use this space to create a synopsis. This edition is, as suggested, the ABSOLUTE edition and it really is quite astonishing. It contains two slip cased hardback books (one containing the original 6 issue run mini-series and the other containing the original scripts)are printed on high quality glossy paper and look great. Take a peak under the dust jackets too, there's a nice gold foil stamp of the LOEG logo. The series itself is an excellent read with wit, intelligence, great storytelling and very nice artwork. The scripts are fascinating to read, especially when looking at the finished comics as you go. Basically this is a brilliant collector's item and essential for the true comic book connoisseur!
