Synopsis
Many disenchanted westerners have gone to the Himalayas in search of renewal, but no one has written about the experience as perceptively and as personally as Andrew Stevenson in Annapurna Circuit. A traveller all his life, Stevenson responds to people and places with an openness unique to the cultural nomad - his portraits of the men, women and children of the Annapurnas, and the fellow backpackers from all over the world who shared his journey, are a delight; his descriptions of the landscape, and the physical hardships of the trek are enthralling. But like every travel book of real quality, this is also the record of a spiritual journey, unpretentious but deeply felt.

Annapurna Circuit Himalayan Journey5
Exquisite inspiring book
I always wanted to go to snow peaked mountains of Himalaya. Early this year I picked up Andrew Stevenson's 'Annapurna Circuit' from library and I was really hooked. I could not put it down. It wasn't only travel writing but a record of his inner spiritual journey. At the end of reading I had a real sense of having travelled through Annapurna circuit with him. Particularly the chapter 'Tera' was exquisite. When I read that chapter I thought I encountered with one of the most beautiful pages on earth. It's about Soul mate and my heart really trembled. I was also in tears when Andrew said good-bye to Dipak towards the end of his trek. As soon as I finished reading this book I organized my trip to Nepal to do my own journey. I visited Red House in Kagbeni to see a beautiful statue of Buddha. This book has such an inspiration for anyone searching for inner journey.

A personal exploration of the Himalaya5
Andrew Stevenson writes a very personal book which not only describes his outer physical journey but also the inner journey that initially inspired him to go to Nepal in the first place
The book is very emotive and descriptive and allows us to walk with him as he finds not only an incredible lanscape and land of extremes but also himself and his purpose.
An inspiring narrative and if you have been to Nepal will with one easy step remind you of the wonders you felt there and for those who are yet to go will inspire them to embark on their own himalayan journey.
An incredible book that cannot be praised highly enough

This is a truely fabulous book. I was fortunate enought to complete the Annapurna Circuit in 1998 and read Andrew's book before and after the trip. I went to the Himalaya because of a life long fascination with Mountaineering. The trip round the Annapurna's was by far the best travel experience of my life. What made this trip and this book so special was actually meeting the author Andrew Stevenson mid-way round the Annapurna Circuit. It was a such a bizzare coincidence and we spent much of the day discussing our respective experiences. The book is a must read because it manages to portray in words the spiritual experience of the journey. This is something I did not appreciate before the trip - I was going to see the mountains - but came away with much more than I anticipated. Even if you are not planning to visit Nepal, this remains one of the best pieces of travel literature I have read.
