Synopsis
This work tells the story of the short life of the Bismarck and her 255 days afloat. The author describes her influence on the war, sinking the pride of the British navy, and her own sinking at the hands of a British taskforce off France that marked the ruination of much of German naval strategy.

Battleship Bismark
Given the wealth of historical works available on the operations of the Royal Navy during the 1939-45 war, it is sad that so few German accounts have become available in English translation. Not only does this book give a fascinating insight and thought provoking into the Bismark's ill fated sortie as seen by one of her officers, it is well written, entertaining and easy to read.
Interesting to read the story from the German viewpoint.
The story of the loss of the Hood and the hunt for the Bismark is well known. This book gives a fascinating insight to this momentous event from the viewpoint of those on Bismark. The detail of the encounter with Bismark and the chase that followed are well presented. The views and state of mind of those commanding the ship are a relealing insight into the way German ships were operated under Hitler.
The author was picked up by the British after it sank, and you get an interesting story of like as a POW in Britain.
