Product Description

Bradt's fully illustrated wildlife guides focus on regions of the world particularly celebrated for their amazing and often unique species. With spectacular photography or exclusive watercolour drawings throughout, each visitors' guide provides an introduction to the region's principal flora and fauna alongside suggested wildlife itineraries, practical information on when to go and what to take, and photography tips. Written in a deliberately engaging way, they offer something different from dry field guides, and will appeal to the interested layman as much as the wildlife devotee. Ideal as a lightweight companion to any wildlife trip they also make a handsome souvenir.
This is an introduction for visitors to the birds, animals and marine life of the Arctic Ocean and its polar fringes, and a fascinating and informative armchair read. In it, Tony Soper's expert knowledge is richly supplemented with full-colour illustrations by award-winning wildlife artist Dan Powell.

Editorial Reviews

Review
'A beautifully written, engaging text by polar veteran Tony Soper describes the habits and life histories of widespread species, which have been exquisitely illustrated in watercolour.' --WWF Arctic Bulletin

About the Author
Naturalist Tony Soper became famous for his pioneering wildlife programmes with the BBC. He has spent the last ten years working his way round the wilderness islands of both polar regions. He sails as expedition leader on icebreakers and ice-hardened vessels in the Antarctic in the austral summer and in the Arctic in the northern summer.
Dan Powell is an award-winning illustrator, he was honoured as British Birds Illustrator of the Year in 1996. His work has appeared in numerous books and journals, including many publications by the RSPB on subjects ranging from parrots and dragonflies. He is happiest when out sketching in the field - especially when stuck in the middle of a bog!
