Product Description

The highest scoring aces of any aerial conflict in World War II were the Luftwaffe pilots involved in the bloody combats on the Russian Front. This volume includes all the high-scoring aces, and explains just how difficult a job the Jagdwaffe faced on the Russian Front.

Customer Reviews

Sadly dull2
This book isn't a total write off, it has a nice introduction and a few good colour plates, nice to see winter camo and the introduction is half nice and the set up is o.k.

The real problem is stated in the introduction, there are far too many Luftwaffe pilots on the Eastern Front to be able to fit them into a book of this size. There were more German Aces at this front than in all other army combined with almost a 100 reaching 100 kills and 2 over 300 kills.

So as for personal accounts, they are brief and few and by the numbers and not so personal at all. Really there is little new and if you are a newcomer then this ins't a good beginers book either.

Sadly for everyone it is dull and your money is probably better spent elsewhere.

Yet Another List2
Unfortunately this book, along with this collection of books from Osprey on the Aces is a little boring due to the way they tend to become a listing of Aces and their scores, without actually relating the "daring-do" of the fighter pilots themselves.

Aerodynamic, Historical and Timeless5
Take a journey back in time and experience the life and times of the very bravest people that ever lived. Fighting for their lives and defending the lives of loved ones and people they never met. Intolerable conditions, illness and loss of comrades, they fought on, using their survival skills, flight skills and learning to read the minds of oncoming enemies. This book has it all, photographs and people. An insight into the aerodynamics of the BF109 and those who flew these magnificent aircraft are forever remembered, like all airmen and women, who fought for freedom. Their stories are timeless classics and their lives are in the history books. It's in this book so read it!
