Tomb Raider Chronicles hit the games market to widespread acclaim for Christmas 2000, and Tomb Raider: The Next Generation is coming this winter on PS2 to coincide with its intensely-awaited arrival in 2001. So the cult of Lara Croft continues to grow. Now with Tomb Raider the movie being released in the summer of 2001 amidst a blaze of publicity, Lara Croft will become an even bigger pop icon this year! The character of Lara Croft has appeared on over 200 magazine covers worldwide and she has over a thousand websites dedicated to her; both of which are sure to increase as Angelina Jolie takes on the role and becomes a flesh-and-blood version of the virtual icon in Paramount Pictures' action-packed movie. The Official Tomb Raider Files features the story so far for Lara Croft, files of her missions and battles, accompanied by an incredible 150 stunning screengrabs from the games. There is a detailed and highly-illustrated profile of Lara herself, including the true story about her aristocratic upbringing, and her journey into the tough and thrilling world of tomb raiding. In addition there are biographies of her friends and enemies and features on her weapons, outfits, vehicles and training as well as puzzles and games related to Tomb Raider, and the problem-solving just as Lara herself encounters in the games. It's all here for the dedicated fan, an essential buy in a year dominated by Lara, an absolute must-have for all gamers who are Tomb Raider mad and love Lara Croft.

A LARA CROFT/TOMB RAIDER GAMEBOOK TREASURE!
Quite simply, I consider this book to be fabulous and a real treat for Lara Croft/Tomb Raider fans! It is very much like Lara's first ever 'annual-type' hardback book and thus must be a much awaited addition to any collection.
From the moment you pick this book up you just know you are in for a treat, and it does not disappoint! The fun starts right from the front cover all the way to the back cover.....Lara is everywhere in full illustrated colour.
Her gaming history lusciously unfolds in every page and her future is not forgotten either in a glimpse of the new state-of-the-art Lara from the New Generation of Tomb Raider games soon to be with us. Everything you would expect to read and see from this 'first' dedicated animated Lara Croft hardback game book 'is served' - as Winston would quite rightly say! Bio-Files, Adventure Archives, Features, Screenshots, Chronicles Diary, Puzzles/Teasers, Weapons Log and LOTS LOTS more... I don't need to waste your time on a lengthy review - you just need to buy this book!
Is there anything bad about it? Well, if you expect to see a book full of brand new Tomb Raider artwork then you may be disappointed. It is simply a pictorial history of Lara and her game adventures right through from TR1 to TR6. Having said that, the pictures and screenshots are perfect for bringing back those moments you most remember whilst playing Lara. Stunning illustrations and write-ups on environments, an opportunity to remember all those baddies, feast your eyes on those hard-earned artefacts, or take a look at Lara's essential wardrobe!
This book is a fitting tribute to Lara Croft and all the Tomb Raider games to date. I am also pleased that it retails at a very reasonable price, making it very affordable and a perfect Christmas gift for every Lara fan this year! This book couldn't fail to delight, inspire and educate Lara fans old and new.
Lara herself would surely agree that this book is a 'real treasure!'
Happy reading.......
Gloom Reader
I really can't say I share the previous reviewers enthusiasm for this book at all. I've been a big TR fan from TR1 to the latest Anniversary edition but this book is not a big addition to any Lara fan's collection. It is very lightweight (literally), poorly presented and disjointed. It does not even give the later games their proper titles (Chronicles, Revelations etc), just referring to them by number.
Each game is "treated" to a brief description and a few screenshots of one of its levels with some rather weak descriptions and poor pictures of the "baddies", weapons and outfits. Bizarrely, there are puzzle pages, as per a kid's Christmas annual.
I can't see this book appealling to old or young TR fans - stick to the individual guides for each game. They are written and illustrated with much more care and thought and are not just game walkthroughs.
