This humorous story tells how Dr Xargle instructs his class of aliens on the appearance and habits of "Earthlets" (human babies) before embarking on a field trip to Earth. Bath-time, feeding and changing nappies are all given a new slant by this alien guide to human behaviour. Jeanne Willis has also written "The Monster Bed", "The Long Blue Blazer", "The Tale of Georgie Grub" and "The Tale of Fearsome Fritz".

An amusing look at earth babies
This witty and hilarious alien interpretation of human babies and baby/parent relationships will have both parents and youngsters giggling. From describing common house cats as ferocious beasts,to portraying weaning as having 'the egg of a hen mangled with a prong tipped into the babies mouth nose and ears' this book is both amusing and easy to identify with for adults. Young children laugh at and enjoy the large and lively pictures of the adventurous baby. My daughter and I read it at bed time at least once a week and after three months we still giggle, if for different reasons.
We bought a copy for each set of Grandparents - great fun.
A great book for adults as well as older children. Makes you laugh out loud. The illustrations are what made us interested in this book in the first place as one had been used on a card we bought. They are what make the book so funny. We bought a copy for each set of grandparents. A true insight into the messiness that is kids.
A funny read
I was bought this book after the birth of my first child and thought it was so funny I waited for an opportunity to buy it for a friend! It is all about Dr Xargles interpretation of baby rearing. For example he observes how Earthlets are picked up by their back tentacles and folded in half so that they can be wrapped in paper or a fluffy triangle to stop them leaking.
This book makes an ideal gift for someone who has just had a baby. It makes a change from gifts of clothes, baby oil and cotton wool!
