Product Description

Writing is a rich and complex area; it "belongs" to the English National Curriculum but its importance across all curriculum areas is generally acknowledged and is further encouraged by the National Literacy Strategy. To many students and newly qualified teachers the subject may seem daunting and so the intention of this revised and updated second edition is to render the teaching of writing more manageable - to place I under their control. This is a companion volume to "Reading Under Control" and, like it, provides comprehensive coverage of the topic. In an accessible style and with examples from the classroom the authors look at the history of writiting in schools and recent theoretical developments. They also look at the practicalities of, planning classroom routines, resources, monitoring and assesment (including target setting) and meeting individual needs. The book is particularly suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate teacher training courses and for in-service training.

A useful book for NQT's and trainee teachers5
I'm nearing the end of a part time PGCE in primary Ed. 'Writing underControl' was well structured and useful while assignment writing. Thefirst chapter gives a brief overview of the development of teaching fromVictorian to present day,via the lifestory of a teacher.Contributors tothe book write about transcriptional and compositional strands, ESL,genretheory and other controversial new theories to literature Assessment ofwriting, and the last chapter titled 'meeting individual needs'givesexcellent examples of different children such as'those who write willinglybut with many errors', and 'those who write at length but with nocomittment'. Altogether this has been the most informative andstraighforward books for use on my course and I would also recommend 'Reading under Control'.

Fantastice for trainnee teachers!5
A really handy book to have around when either working on assignments or in the classroom. Some helpful ideas with constructive and realistic advice.
