Brilliant
I completed my A2 last year and if it wasn't for this book i would surely have failed. If you find it hard to totally undrstand what your tutor is telling you then you shold buy this book. It takes you step-bt-step through everything and tells you bluntly the facts of what you need to know for the exam, whereas other book (and tutors) make it more complicated. If it wasn't for this book I wouldn't have got a grade B.
Useful but not essential
This book is a 'practice' book, and NOT a 'revision' book - it consists simply of pages and pages of questions. The questions are split into the various topics to coincide with the topics in 'Letts Revise GCSE Chemistry'. Each topic has a sample A* answer and a sample C answer for the first quesiton, with examiner's comments, analysis and tips for boosting your grade. However, it does not teach you, it tests you, so you'll need to have learned/revised the material thoroughly in advance, using an in-depth revision book such as 'Letts Revise GCSE Chemistry', and anyway, the best practice you can get is past papers from your examination board. This book would be useful if there was a specific topic you wanted to test yourself on, because exam papers mix up topics randomly. But if you just want to test yourself generally, get past papers, or if you need to revise before you practise, get 'Letts Revise GCSE' instead.
a good revision guide
I can't say that this revision guide is the sole reason I got an A last summer, but I can say that it helped. It covers all UK exam boards and goes into everything really quite well at AS and A2.
This book is just the AS and the A2 revision guides in one book, which can lead to confusion when using page numbers and/or finding the index (numbers start again in the middle, just before which there's the AS-Level's section's index).
Saying that, I have to give a word of warning, there are some aspects where I had to use my notes to supplement this or, where holes still laid, use an absolutely brilliant website I found (I can't list it here-sorry!). I did Edexcel Chemistry, for those who were wondering.
