Synopsis
Louisiana, synonymous with music and known as the birthplace of jazz, is also home to many other styles, including Cajun (based on French folk music), zydeco (a combination of jazz and blues developed by Louisiana's black population), blues, gospel and even rock and roll. This "Rough Guide" CD encompasses these genres, which were pioneered and developed within the region described as the "well-spring of America's music", thanks to the influx of traditional music spanning several continents. The CD was compiled by Dan Rosenberg who produces radio programmes such as Cafe International and Afropop Worldwide. He is also a regular contributor to "fRoots", "Outpost", "Down Beat" and the "Rough Guides".
