Customer Reviews

Very, Very Good5
As I prepare to join Hampshire Police in a few months, I have been spending a fortune on books. Most of what I have either found myself or had recommended has been of a reference nature, but I really wanted something to give me both some background of and insight into modern policing in the UK. Most of what pops up in a search seems on a level with "The Bill Annual", and I had almost given up when I found this excellent volume.

The editor has pulled together an eclectic selection of academics and serving officers which combine to give what seems a perfect picture of the current state of the police service and how it got there.

A really great book for anyone studying the police4
This book covers a whole range of issues involved in poling, for its size its not to expensive either. I found it very helpful when writing my dissertation on 'the role of the police', it avoids academic jargon and makes pretty easy reading, yet at the same time it's not over simplistic. A great book to have if you're interested in looking at the police from a sociological perspective.

Great for students or people entering the profession5
I bought this book as a replacement for the older version and i have to say it is just as good as the first edition, if not better. It is up to date on all current issues surrounding the police and the sheer size of the book shows that the topics are well covered. I have just completed a BA Hons in Criminology and found this book extremely useful for lots of different modules.
