Product Description

The world is dead, devoured by a plague of rasping corpses. In a decaying city a band of survivors are barricaded inside a warehouse surrounded by a sea of shambling putrefaction. But now the food is almost gone and the occupants are faced with the slow death of starvation or the undead outside. As Sarah stands on the edge of the warehouse roof preparing to step off into oblivion she spots a glimmer of hope. In the distance she spies a helicopter approaching the city. Is this the salvation they had long since given up on?

So, you wanna be undead?5
Where to start? At the beginning I suppose...

I don't normally read or enjoy books of a horror nature, with my previous forray being Rats and Lair by James Herbert. However, for various reasons, I decided to try something new. And I'm very glad I did.

The story is set in a post apocalypicesc world where a 'virus' has infected people, turning them into Walking Dead with only one instinct; food. Or more precise, human flesh. The story revolves around a woman called Sarah who, with a group of others, has managed to survive holed up in a sanctuary (I'm giving no plot away here!!!) before being rescued and thrust straight into the fire again.

The book is a very easy read and had me wanting to read more the further I got in (For me this is a VERY big thing as I've a tendancy to ditch a book if I can't get into it within the first chapter or so). While not being an out and out gore fest, there's enough here to make you cringe. The pace is good; not rushed and not slow enough to detract and the cliff hanger at the end just make me want to read the next one as soon as. Just a shame it's the author's first book really... :-)

Overall this is a good read and if you're a zombie fan, a must.

Excellent5
Domain Of The Dead is one of those books you just can't put down once you start. It is both well written and exciting. It's full of action and is a more intelligent zombie story compared to what is generally available. I like that the ending was open for a possible sequel.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good zombie story.

A SUPERB NOVEL.5

George A Romero is one of my absolute all time favourite authors. Iain McKinnon's imaginably rich tale, not only feels frighteningly realistic, it also puts him on a par with recognised zombie horror authors everywhere.

McKinnon's main characters of Sarah and Nathan are well-executed, benevolent, and pragmatic in their actions and motivations. So much so, that I often found myself rooting for them when things go bad. And boy, do things go bad. But it goes without saying this only adds to the tension of quite a superb novel.

McKinnon has managed to portray a very vivid and very unsettling picture of a world being cruelly entrenched by a zombie apocalypse.

His realistic approach to the zombie genre had me reading this book until the early hours of the morning.

I have never read anything quite like it; atmospheric, turbulent and extremely good. I can only wait in vain to see if another book is published.

A definite must read.
