Editorial Reviews

From the Author
“Gardening is such an optimistic activity. By sowing a seed you are investing in the future, and gardening, unlike life, gives us all endless second chances. Perhaps gardens and gardening ought to be available on prescription.”

About the Author
Gay Search worked with Geoff Hamilton as co-presenter on three television series, First Time Garden, First Time Planting and Old Garden New Gardener. She is also presenter and author of the BBC series and books Front Gardens and More Front Gardens, the author of Gardening from Scratch 1 and 2, and a presenter on Gardeners' World.

“If you are a gardener then you will have no doubt that your garden makes you feel good. It gives you enormous pleasure and a great sense of satisfaction – indeed, a recent survey showed not only that 51 per cent of men questioned preferred gardening to going to the pub or playing sport, but also that 2 per cent of the women preferred gardening to sex! When you come in from a good afternoon’s gardening you may feel tired, but its’ the right kind of tired – the kind that comes from physical work well done in the fresh air and in beautiful surroundings, not the kind that comes after a string of stressful meetings and a nightmare journey home.

While you know that gardening and your garden make you feel good, you may not know that they also positively do you good. What The Healing Garden sets out to do is show you how your garden can be an even more valuable resource for your health and well-being – physically, mentally and spiritually. If you have a garden, but don’t yet think of yourself as a gardener, then The Healing Garden hopes to show you how even an ordinary small backyard can be made into a beautiful and practical healing garden, and convince you to give gardening at try.”

Customer Reviews

A pleasurably way to evoke the senses.5
Gay Search has managed to combine beautiful photography and text to bring an educational and thought provoking book to readers.
The explaination of the history of sensory plants and the catogorizing of the different uses was excellent, and the reader is able to find specific plants of personal useage. A well thought out and sympathetic section was available to help allergy suffering gardeners find low pollen plants, this was of use to myself as this is a particular problem of mine during most of the year, however, putting this aside I carry on using a good mixture of plants and simply put up with the hay fever regardless!
I am also keen on aromatherapy and the easy to follow instructions and uses of the oils was clear and precise.
I now look forward to putting my new found information into practice.
