Product Description

Students applying to Oxbridge are increasingly required to sit Oxbridge-specific admissions tests. These are usually aptitude tests, consisting of multiple choice questions focused on critical thinking and problem solving skills. The most widely used is the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA.) This book introduces candidates to critical thinking and problem solving skills and their use in answering test questions. It includes a practice test, similar to the TSA, with answers and explanations, and also guidance on the TSA Writing Task undertaken by applicants to Oxford. The book also refers to the tests for English (ELAT), History (HAT), Physics (PAT), Mathematics and Computer Sciences (MJDCSAT).

Customer Reviews

OK at best2
The book is an attempt to help students prepare for the Thinking Skill Assessment; one of the many oxbridge admissions tests. IT HAS LITTLE INFORMATION FOR OTHER TESTS.

The book does little more than explain the content of the test and give practise questions. There are few actual attempts to teach the student how to answer the questions.

Many of the practise questions are also copied from the sites sample test.

Better bet is to teach yourself using information on cambridge assessments site.

Erroneous and misleading1
This book could seriously damage the confidence of a potential applicant. We have worked through half of the numerical examples, and found at least 2 errors. The textual problems are in some cases very woolly and the reasoning faulty. DO NOT BUY!

Serious flaws in this book1
This book has serious problems! I have only been through about 25% of the book but at least two of the numerical questions are simply wrong, and there are transcription errors in several more. I'm dubious about some of the textual ones as well. More proof-reading needed for the second edition.
