Pocket encyclopaedia of Clash songs
This is a must-have for dedicated fans of this legendary punk band, which went on to transcend the confines of the genre. A couple of hundred words are devoted to each song they ever recorded, with lengthier treatment given to their most important works. Complete Control, for example, gets two pages. Fletcher includes some subjective (generally sensible) commentary but most of his notes are solidly informative. Post-breakup releases are also in there, right up to the 25th anniversary edition of London Calling. The book is rounded off with a few pages on their video releases and the band members' subsequent solo careers.
Personally I might have preferred the discographic section to be in alphabetical order but, for understandable reasons, it's arranged chronologically. There's an index anyway.
A couple of dozen good quality colour pictures are a nice bonus.
Some silly problems with the typography constitute the only let-down.
A CLASH FAN'S MUST HAVE
Excellent read not just a list of all the songs.Really enjoyed reading the book and it help to explain a lot of things.A must for all Clash fans.
