Product Description

A pension used to be something you could take for granted. Not any more. With the widespread closure of final salary schemes, crisis at Equitable Life and the threat of further 'shortfalls', public confidence in pensions has fallen almost as low as interest rates. Added to this are government threats to increase the pension age and a constant erosion of the state pension, which is no longer linked to earnings..."The Pension Handbook" takes a realistic look at how you can safeguard your future. Whether you're deliberating over SERPs/S2Ps, setting up a private scheme, moving jobs or approaching retirement age, this practical guide provides accessible advice for navigating the pensions maze.It covers state, personal and company pension funds. It examines the pros and cons of 'contracting out'. It outlines practical steps for plugging gaps and maximising savings. It looks at changes of circumstance, such as death or divorce. It explains pension investments and how to protect your income.

A Book That Everyone Should Read5
In years gone by many people worked for the same firm for most of their lives, and the firm automatically provided them with a good pension when they retired. Times are changing and now everyone, even the relatively young, needs a basic knowledge of pensions so that they can plan for their own retirement.
This excellent book is a very readable introduction to pensions. You can read it from cover to cover, as I did, or just select topics you are particularly interested in. You don't need any prior knowledge.
