Product Description

Frances Lincoln are delighted to present paperback editions of this classic picture book series, which come with a free CD audiobook read by Jim Broadbent. There's nothing more likely to prompt our portly hero into action than the prospect of treasure. So when the valiant cabin boy Tom espies a mound of yellow stuff aboard a nearby ship, the Captain sets off in hot pursuit. Unfortunately, his villainous arch-enemy, the horrible Cut-throat Jake, is not far away. Will the Captain be trapped by Jake's dastardly plan? Or will Tom, the wisest little cabin boy on the Seven Seas, have a plan of his own…?

Editorial Reviews

Review
The stories are wonderfully told: simple, clear language that stays on course... and of course the illustrations are so enduringly distinctive, with Pugwash of the late Pavarotti-like proportions. (Book Magazine )

Pirate tales never date and this one will be popular with young readers who will be enlivened not only by the writing but also by the numerous, vigorous and colourful illustrations. Additionally there is a CD; Jim Broadbent tells the story engagingly and is accompanied by a crew of pirates, and specially composed music and maritime sound effects. (Ibby Link )

The distinctive illustrations are lively, quirky and full of fun and add to the straightforward and tongue-in-cheek, amusing text. Added to this is the CD of the story narrated by Jim Broadbent's warm tones and accompanied by a very jolly sailor's hornpipe. Certain to be enjoyed by readers and listeners of all ages. (Carousel )

Captain Pugwash 4 story tape.5
An instant hit with my children aged 7,5 and 3 (boy, girl, boy). So popular that when we reach our destination they will not get out of the car until the story has finished. Excellent voices, good Ooo-arrrhs, jolly music, and Tom the Cabin Boy always saves the day. Most importantly, after 7 back to back repeats I don't hate it - yet.

Good fun for everyone4
This was bought for my 3 yr old son as a pressie - what a cracking choice. The story on CD takes 12 mins, which is just about the right length to get to the shops. Lovely audio effects. The book stands up to re-reading well and the illustrations are very clear. Good news if you are trying to read it before bedtime on a low light.
