Product Description
In May 1939, Detective Comics #27 introduced a new kind of hero to the world - not a brightly costumed Superman or even a trenchcoated investigator like the Spirit; this hero stalked the night, using his frightening appearance, supreme physical training and incomparable detective skills to bring criminals to justice - and he called himself the Bat-Man! This handsome new trade paperback collects the very first adventures of one of the world's greatest superheroes, reprinting his stories sequentially beginning with Detective Comics #27. Incredibly rare and near-impossible to find in their original format, these stories are sure to thrill a whole new generation of readers, much as they caused a sensation originally. Get ready to see Batman begin!

Review
Starburst Magazine July 2005: " It's fascinating to see ...where these icons came from."
About the Author
Bob Kane and Bill Finger are widely regarded as the creators of Batman and also created Robin and Commissioner Gordon, as well as many of the legendary rogues gallery characters, including Catwoman, the Penguin and the Joker. Gardner Fox wrote several early Batman stories, and Justice League of America. Jerry Robinson and Sheldon Moldoff illustrated several of the early Batman strips, but owing to the working practices of the time, were uncredited - until now!

Fantastic!
This a fantastic compendium of early Batman stories. This is how the Dark Knight should be seen. The sometimes crude artwork can't disguise the Pulpish exuberance as the Batman happily breaks a thugs neck and hangs a transformed lunatic from the Batplane ('He's probably better off this way'!).
One thing to be aware of is that a couple of the stories have been seen in 'The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told' and 'Batman in the Forties'.
It is superb value for money as I guess it's a cheaper version of the Batman Archives.
This is a great buy for anyone who enjoys the early days of the Batman or who is interested in seeing his development.
