the faces of fear
Matt Wagner writes and draws what is possibilty to date Two-Face's finest moment. You see, this work is not really about Batman at all. It is about the logic and the madness that lurk within the mind of Harvey Dent, as he plans and plants his dream of the 'deformity nation.
Remniscent of the classic film 'Freaks' 'Faces' is part detective story - with Batman trying to figure out just what Two-Face's murdering spree is in aid of - part a wry, sensitive delving into the delicate subject of human 'deformity', part horror story and part pure pathos.
In many ways it is disturbing and also hopeful. It is, in its way, unique and certainly Wagner's finest work. In truth "Faces' could be anybody's finest work.
not great, but pretty good
perhaps I should start off by saying I'm not a big two-face fan. Still the story here was solid, good art... I enjoyed it. I'm still not a huge two-face fan but I'm glad I got this one.
Get Your Freak On
Matt Wagner does a good job of this Two-Face story. Two-Face escapes from Arkham and commits many crimes plotting a new society populated by 'freaks' he has kidnapped from various places. Batman has to use all his detective skills to find and then thwart Two-face's schemes.
This is a good read and Wagner deserves credit for the story and the artwork, but especially for an excellant portrayal of Two-Face and an intelligent look at the duality that's at the core of Two-Face's problems - and many problems the rest of us face as well.
It was possibly a gamble using the 'freak' idea for the story but it is handled well and Two-Face learns a valuable lesson about the strength of human spirit from them.
Although this is not my favourite Two-Face story it is worth a place in any Batman fan's collection.
