Product Description

Despite being in the limelight for over 20 years and selling nearly 200 million records, Freddie Mercury was a very private person - avoiding interviews as he was painfully shy and uncomfortable in the company of anyone who might intrude upon his famous 'royal family' of close friends. This book takes us on the journey of Queen - three academics and a frustrated art student, tired of having no money, taking on the music industry on their own terms. Spurred on by an almost uncontrollable, ambitious and forthright Mercury, Queen succeeded, becoming the biggest band of the generations to come. The story, told in his own words shows how on many occasions, the band almost split, but was always kept together by their shared love of breaching musical boundaries. Freddie's own personal story is one of pursuing a dream, dealing with wealth and fame, looking back and having no regrets, coming to reflect on his thoughts on getting old, his legacy and death. Though Freddie talked rarely to others about himself, the interviews published - and some unpublished up until now, compiled in this book, together with an intriguing insight into the man who outwardly exuded confidence and arrogance but behind that public perception spent periods alone and searching for happiness. This title includes a foreword by Freddie's Mother Jer Bulsara.

Wonderful...5
This is the nearest thing to Freddie's AutoBiography as we're ever likely to get. A definate must for Queen and Freddie fans.

It must have taken some painstaking piecing together, but the hard work has paid off. What we have here is just about everything Freddie publicly said and it covers just about every aspect anyone could be interested in.

It's also refreshing to know that for once what we're reading is gospel truth at the time freddie said it. So no more crude opinions from people who have no clue what they're talking about, these words are from the great man himself. Because of the way it's been pieced together from recorded interviews and statements, it almost feels like Freddie is talking to you and is far more personal than anything that has been deliberatly written.

Freddie certainly had a lot of opinions and wasn't afraid to be blunt. But i'd prefer that to some wishy washy 'easy-to-forget' answers. I find myself hanging on his every word. As you read your way through the book, all his emotions come flooding out..his humour...his campness...his arrgoance... his passion and love and of course his love of music. It's all here and it makes for fasinating reading.

The most insightful and truthful Queen book out there, and it's from the horses mouth! Freddie remains a constant inspiration to millions. I don't know where i'd be without him.

The Queen is Alive4
I am a massive Freddie Mercury fan and have a few books written by people about him. These books are good but there's nothing better than hearing words direct from the person that the book is actually about. And this is what this book is all about. I love it because it feels like he is speaking to the reader. Freddie was a very private man and rarely did interviews but this book takes the interviews he did and notes down the quotes he said. The quotes range from hilarious to sad, happy to extravagant, and many more. You know how he was feeling at each stage of his short lived life and the showman which lived inside him explodes onto the pages of this book. Believe me you will be repeating the quotes in this book to your friends and family. A great book for fans.

A Gem Of Royality5
This is a book of thoughts, feelings and opinions in words of a unique Entertainer, who was one of the very Best. Almost like sitting on Freddie Mercury's shoulder, listening to his speaking these words. A book to be read slowly, giving the reader time to ponder upon the thoughts of an entertainer who cared so much about his fans. A kind of thought capsule throughout his years. A gem for my book collection.
