An ancient secret...A deadly conspiracy...A potential international bestseller. With translation rights sold in 27 countries, this high-octane commercial thriller tells of a hunt for the lost prophecies of Nostradamus and the two men who will do anything to discover their secrets. It is an entirely compulsive page-turner for readers of Raymond Khoum's "The Last Templar". Nostradamus wrote a thousand prophecies. Only 942 have survived. What happened to the missing quatrains? And what secrets did they contain to make it necessary for them to remain hidden? And why did Nostradamus leave his daughter a sealed container in his will? This mystery drives two men with very different desires. Adam Sabir is a writer desperate to revive his flagging career; Achor Bale is a member of an ancient secret society that has dedicated itself to the protection and support of the 'Three Antichrists' foretold in Nostradamus's verses - Napoleon, Adolf Hitler, and the 'one still to come'...The pair embark on a terrifying chase through the ancient Romany encampments of France in a quest to locate the missing verses.

Customer Reviews
Not what you might expect
Like myself, I expect most people's motive for cherry-picking this book to be its title, and the Nostradamus allusion. I was sceptical at first, afraid of being conned. But from the outset, I admired the way Mario Reading plays all the hype down in this admirable thriller - no great trembling Gods bearing down from on high, no false leads. The author knows his stuff, but doesn't shove it in your face. And, myriad unexpected twists and turns, delivered with aplomb. Fabulous sense of place. What makes it is Reading's great cast of oddball characters. I loved the detective, Calque, and his assistant, Macron. Mostly because the author characterises them with a satirical air. It's the small observations, the tongue-in-cheek, the droll. Ordinary people on an extraordinary mission that could easily be farcical, but isn't - and a really loathsome but strangely likeable antagonist, Bale. It's laugh-out-loud sometimes. And, it's the journey that counts; the hallmark of great storytelling. Well done, Mario Reading.
Fantastic Book cant wait for the next one. Try Map Of Bones whilst you wait.
Great book full of interesting characters and great chase scenes which is possibly the only fault of the book in my opinion on the chase scene bit. If you like the Da Vinci Code style books which this is very much like and a more informed book at that then great however if you want a bit more then maybe look elsewhere.
The book involves a writer who desperately trying to find the Prophecies of Nostradamus before a psychotic killer gets his hands on it under the illusion he is protecting us from the 3rd coming of the antichrist in his own way but murdering and torturing in his path. There is slightly too much story involved around the gypsy side of the book but he references to the Nostradumus prophecies and gypsy history is incredibly fascinating.
All in all a great book looking forward to the next one and the best version of a Da Vinci Code type book outside of James Rollins's THE MAP OF BONES.
a must read
a must read for fans of nostradamus and also lovers of the da vinci code....dare i say it even better.
