They include Bronze Age burial mounds, chambered tombs and stone alignments, Iron Age settlement huts and hillforts such as the huge Maiden Castle, the foundations of a Roman temple, medieval village ruins and Norman stone keeps, a Civil war memorial, and a 17th-century market hall.
