Applied Occlusion, University of Newcastle, UK
Dr Wassell and his team have produced the book that dentists have been waiting for, for too long.
Occlusion is often an ill-taught subject at undergraduate level, although directly impacting on almost all restorative procedures carried out. I have several books on occlusion that are lying dormant on my book shelf as they have all failed to bring the subject across in a stimulating and easy to understand format. This book/DVD, however, breaks all those barriers that are often associated with the subject of occlusion and brings together the required information in a concise manor with clear chapters and headings. It is well written throughout with very good quality clinical photographs, radiographs and diagrams to back up the text. It deals with occlusal aspects of simple restorative work through to complex rehabilitations and implant retained prosthesis with all clinical and laborartory phases described accordingly.
The DVD is an innovative collection of live demonstrations, including topics such as, occlusal examination and analysis, laboratory procedures through to occlusal adjustment. This greatly enhanced my understanding of the indivdual topic areas and made it much easier to transfer directly into my own clinical practice.
Well done to Dr Wassell and his team from Newcastle Dental School for producing the best, most clinically useful book I have purchased in the last few years.
GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY.
A complex subject expained beautifully
This is by far the best book on the subject I have have come across. It is very easy and even, dare I say, enjoyable to read from cover to cover. But with well defined sections it readily allows you to refer to for help and advice if needed to in practice. The use of the included DVD to show animated dynamic jaw movements and clinical footage means that the complicated 3D concepts are much more easily visualised and understood. This is a masterstroke. It also has a dedicated website to download assessment sheets.
The initial lack of expectation due to the relative cheapness and size of this book compared to its peers, turns to delight that a book occupying relatively small amounts of shelf space can so succinctly make a complex area so straightforward. It compares brilliantly to books 3 times it apparent size and space. I can not recommend highly enough
