Product Description

The objects listed in the Caldwell Catalogue supplement Messier's famous catalogue of 110 non-stellar objects, and they include some of the most fascinating objects for amateur astronomers. This comprehensive guide to the Caldwell objects has been produced specially for observers. Each object is conveniently on a double-page spread (which can even be photocopied for field use). There is a photographic image of every object and full technical data including position (with the major Star Atlas chart numbers) and NGC number. It also includes a finder map showing TelradTM circles, a star-hopping guide, a visual description of what the object looks like through amateur telescopes, and a physical description of the object itself. There is a fold-out map showing the location of all the Caldwell objects in the sky. Every practical amateur astronomer will find this an essential guide to observing the Caldwell objects.

Editorial Reviews

Irish Astronomical Journal, Vol. 27, Issue 2, 2000
This is an excellent observer's handbook.

The Observatory, Vol. 120, Issue 1158, 2000
... it should bring the Caldwell Catalogue the attention it deserves amongst deep-sky aficionados.

The Caldwell Objects5
The Caldwell Objects are probably as well-known as the Messier objects, I was however uncertain as to who catalogued them. I was astonished to find it was our own Patrick Moore, whose full name is Patrick Caldwell-Moore, so I learnt something new from practically the first page. If you are in to observational astronomy you may have already exhausted the Messier objects and are looking to move onto something new then the Caldwell objects are for you! No Messier objects are included in the Caldwell list so you have a brand new hunting ground of astronomical objects every bit as interesting as Messier's. This book also gives a nice black & white photo for each object so that you can be certain you're looking at the right thing. If you are new to "go to" astronomy and want a couple of definitive reference books to get you going, I recommend this book together with O'Meara's "Deep Sky Companion: The Messier Objects".
