Customer Reviews
Excellent technobable!
This book 'does exactly what it says on the tin'! It is a technical manual for the Enterprise-D, giving a VERY detailed look at how this ship 'might' work in real life. It is full of well explained technobable and is very interesting and suprisingly plausable. Hundreds of clear illustrations are contained within this book, along with several interesting anecdotes from the series. Perhaps a bit much for the regular fan, but anyone with a technical or scientific mind will enjoy this book very much.
Scotty Wouldn't Need Anything Else
For any Trek fan, the technology plays a huge role in the magic of the show. The imagination and actual scientific theory which has gone into the various gizmos is inspiring, and this book sets out to explain them all.
And it does so well. From warp engines to phasers, from life support to structural integrity, every technology you can remember - some you may not - is in here. Accompanying diagrams and charts make it feel more like a true science book than a fictional book.
It is ideal for anyone who has ever wondered how warp speed works, how shields protect the ship, and how the crew stick to the floor instead of float around. Every technology is covered with a satisfactory, near-accurate scientific explaination. It's complexity does limit it perhaps to the older, more hard-core fans of the show rather than people who have only a passive interest, or younger fans who may not grasp all of the concepts covered.
An excellent addition to any fan's library.
A worthwhile buy
If you love TNG you are in for a treat with this book. It covers everything on the Enterprise-D from replicators to phasers, to explaining the basics of warp theory. This book is an esential for any Star Trek Fan and explains many unanswered questions. Being written by the produser, it is as close to the show as possible. A great buy.
