Simply brilliant.
WHAT A CONCEPT! The Predators decide to seed various planets with Xenomorph eggs to provide worth hunts for their warriors. Unbeknownst to the Predators though, one of the planets has recently been colonised by humans...
This graphic novel opens with three preludes, one about the Xenomorph eggs, one about the Predators' heirachy and one about the hunt itself. We're then taken to a remote ranching colony where a group of humans is caught between the Predators and the Aliens. The development of the female lead character (a hallmark of the Alien films) is fascinating and so is the Predator who turns against his own kind out of a sense of honour.
The art is very good and one of the best pictures is that of the rogue Predator facing off against a half-dozen Xenomorph.
Basically, this book captures the essence of both the film franchises and is the best and second best crossover for the Aliens and Predators respectively (the best Predator one has to be 'Batman vs Predator'). Plus, it's a nice weighty book and makes 'graphic novel' a truly appropriate name.
Absolutely brilliant!
The sequel to the original 'Aliens Versus Predator', and it's amazing.
Set two years after the events of the original, (so in the year 2181), Nogushi has joined the Predator clan, thanks to the mark that Broken Tusk left her with at the end of the first book.
It begins with a routine hunt; as established in the first book, Predators carry Xenomorph Queens onboard their main ships; who lays eggs. The eggs are scanned to make sure they don't contain any young Queens, placed into a robot, and sent to a planet. Afterwards, an experienced Predator leads a group of young Predators to the planet to teach them how to hunt; by beginning with the deadliest organisms ever: the Xenomorphs. However, in the first book, not only did the eggs reach a human colony, but one egg carrying a Queen slipped through.
Anyway, the sequel begins with a hunt which turns bad for one Predator called 'Two-Stripes', who decides to cheat to achieve trophies, and pays badly for it.
Following this, it tells the story of a Colonial Marine squad been sent to Ryushi,in response to a signal been picked up. Weyland-Yutani assumes it is a ship like the one found on LV-426, however, it turns out to be a crashed Predator ship. Those who survive come under attack from Xenomorphs and Predators, forcing the marines to flew to the now desimated colony of 'Properity Wells'.
Flowing this, it focuses on one of the most important characters; Nogushi on a mission to capture a Queen from a planet, and attempt to earn her place in the largest hunt on the planet 'Budda'.
Howeever; when Nogushi learns there are humans on the planet, she struggles to work out whose side she's really on...
A brilliant story, well told and written. The artwork is also amazing, can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Out of this World....
There's a pretty simple but very effective start to this story. Predators go off for a hunt on a planet but haven't bargained on humans having settled down. Naturally, the humans are the ones caught in the middle as each side start slaughtering.
The storyboard is very good and even the storyline is very intelligent with a slight twist at the end of the book.
For those thinking what an Aliens vs Predator movie would be like....read this first.
