Product Description

The year takes its shape from the seasons of nature and the feasts and festivals of the Christian year. Each informs and illuminates the other in this loving celebration of nature's gifts and neighbourly friendship. Literature, poetry, spirituality and memory all merge to create an exquisite series of stories of our times. For all the changes in the contemporary countryside, timeless qualities remain and both are captured here with a poet's understanding and imagination.

Customer Reviews

Another of Blythe's little masterpieces5
The natural and the Christian year circles, and Ronald Blythe records the days and weeks from his corner of rural Essex. If you're an atheist, like me, don't be put off by the devotional stuff - it's merely part of life for the Author, and the book is well worth reading just for his descriptions of the turning seasons and the natural world, in which he is thoroughly rooted. Blythe's simple, almost comversational style is deceptive. He can convey the most complex issues with a fresh, engaging simplicity. He is a national treasure, I'm afraid. Sorry Ronnie!
