Useless explanations.
Poor questions, often with grammatical errors, or sufficient vagueness to make the question unintelligible. Answers exceptionally brief. Again, you'll need reference to a "proper" paeds book for any explanation you might want.

On the plus side... ummm.... it's nice and slim...

challenging questions, limitted summaries
This book covers twenty major topics relavant to MRCPCH part 1 as well as providing a practice exam. There is a good selection of questions on each topic which will test your deeper knowledge. (perhaps more so than PasTest books)
However it lets itself down in its summaries which are often a simple sentence or phrase, forcing the user to return to textbooks for clarification (for many questions Nelson's is necessary). Without good summaries or access to a textbook this book could become a basic exercise in rote learning rather than a tool for broadening paediatric knowledge. Fuller summaries, like those in the PasTest books, would greatly improve the educational benefit of this book.
In the end the ultimate test of any MCQ book must be if use of it helps candidates pass the exam. My answer to that will have to wait until June.
