Disappointing
I bought this book to help me revise for my MRCPCH Part 2 written. Although it is cheaper than other books available, I think it is false economy as I have ended up buying other photo books to help me.
The book has a good range of photographic and radiological images and covers a wide range of subjects however many of the pictures are not clear images and I do not feel they adequately demonstrate the point. However, I understand that, like real life, many images are not 'text book' examples so I thought that a question book would help me to firstly identify anomalies but also, more importantly, help me to get the hang of looking at pictures that are from real life so that I am better prepared for my exam. I did not feel that this book helped me do that; I felt there were numerous poor pictorial examples.
The book is divided into five chapters each with 25 questions and with the answers at the end of each chapter. This makes for clumsy studying, as I like to check my answers as I go along so I have to flick to the end of the chapter, trying not to catch sight of the answer for the next question, then flicking back to the question section again.
Many of the questions ask "What investigations would you do?' but do not specify how many marks the question is for or how many one is supposed to pick. This is very frustrating. Some questions in the book do ask for '2 investigations' then go on to list 4 'musts' in the answer section.
Overall, I found this book unhelpful and frustrating. I didn't feel that the explanations were especially enlightening and so will be using other books and sources to prepare for the image questions in the exam.
