Outstanding!
I read this book for the first time as an adult, and can clearly see lessons that I still need to learn!
The adventures of Rat, Mole, Toad, and Badger are timeless. They have spoken to young and old for decades, as they continue to speak to me. I was told by a man studying to be a pastor that during his internship, his mentor required that he read this book -- it has more to say about how to deal with relational conflicts and differing personalities than perhaps any other!
Aside from the lessons to be learned here, however, the stories themselves are simply charming! The characters are vivid and lovable -- despite their quirks and foibles. I'm delighted to have discovered these stories -- even if it was a little later in life than most.
A Masterpiece!!!!!
This book, is quite possibly one of the greatest ever written for in this book Kenneth Grahame has achieved an incredible feat, one that very few others have. He has produced a novel which can be read by anyone regardless of age, gendre,or culture! It is a masterpiece of english prose and an invitation into a world that is free of problems to run away from, dreading futures to await or bullys from whom to hide. You'd have to be a full to turn this invitation down! I agree with what a nineteenth century reviewer had said when the book had first come out, for I find it hard to believe how anyone can criticize a book that is about such beauty and joy and happiness and whose language is so much fun to read. I implore you to pick up a copy and read it today!
delightful and well characterised version of an old favouite
Gentle, easy, humorous watching for any age. The story is well known, and the excellent voice talents of such as Rik Mayall and Alan Bennett add to its charm and fun.
