Another fine book...5
Dr Alfred Price will be known to many people interested in aviation and in particular, to those with an interest in the Battle of Britain. His previous book on the subject was "The Hardest Day", again referring to a single day in that critical campaign. This book was clearly written to be released at the time of the 50th anniversary and documents the day most people regard as the climax of the battle.

In a similar format to his previous work and using many of the same sources, "Battle of Britain Day", while still a 5 star book, is not quite the masterwork its predecessor is. However, the first-hand accounts from both sides maintain a superb human touch, blow-by-blow, minute-by-minute descriptions keep the reader rivetted to the story and attention to detail speaks of exhaustive research.

This is a book which probably "had" to be written and there were probably only a couple of writers who could have done the job. In my opinion, because of the writer's personal style, only Alfred Price could have done it as well. Many similar books come across as a bit clinical. If the book suffers in any way, it is probably because the day itself, whilst it is remembered by most people as the climax of the battle, was probably not. By the time this particular action was fought, the tide of the Battle of Britain had already turned. The Hardest Day covers the real climax.
