a must have
This title is already a favourite of Napoleonic enthusiasts and is often mentioned on various websites when seeking answers to artillery questions. As with anything historical, from the Ancient period to the modern, there are many debates and viewpoints, and there are certainly quite a few concerning Napoleonic artillery. But now, instead of wasting time listening to endless biased arguments without solutions, enthusiasts can now turn to this wonderful title. It covers all you need to know about the artillery of the Napoleonic period. There are details on the main nations, such as France, Britain, Prussia and Russia, but also the lesser states, such as The Grand Duchy of Warsaw, Bavaria, Wurttemberg and Hesse-Darmstadt. The French fought almost every other nation, and their opponents both feared and admired their artillery, so naturally, the French artillery arm is often highlighted within each chapter. The human factor, very rarely depicted in other titles on the topic, is also brought to life. Many titles throw out facts, usually outdated or biased, along with lifeless descriptions, as if the men manning the guns were robots and the battles computerised games. This title also adds the feel of battle and helps highlight the amazing achievment of the incredible gunners, mere mortals that they were. There are artillery prints, battle maps, range tables and a very helpful glossary for those not familiar with artillery terms. Of course, no author can fit everything into one title, but this one offers so much, that no true Napoleonic enthusiast, no matter which nation they might favour, will be disappointed.
