As they begin their leisurely progress through its green and verdant countryside, the holiday spirit sets in. But England presents more than a contrast of scenery to this German couple - amongst the company of their English companions Edelgard seems to undergo a change of terperament, rebealing herself to be far less biddable than the upright Major had believed. Review
'One of the cleverest and most amusing stories of the year' Punch, 1939, on first publication *'Elizabeth excelled at creating horribly hilarious male characters, and the bone-headed Baron is one of her very best ... The vital ingredient in all her work is fun, and here she is at her most sprightly and irreverent ... The overall effect is as exhilarating as a stiff sea breeze' Kate Saunders

Think Diary of a Nobody meets Three Men in a Boat
I laughed out loud whilst reading this. The central character reminded me of Charles Pooter (Diary of a Nobody)and the antics of him and his fellow caravaners put me in mind of the three men in a boat. Great holiday reading - it will make you appreciate the comforts of your hotel, gite or even caravan. Read this if you need cheering up!
