Average customer review:Product Description
Evaluates the work of Jagdgeschwader 1, the Red Baron's revolutionary unit, and shows how Richthofen and colleagues tested new aircraft and tactics "on the hoof" as the air war developed over the battlefields of World War One.

Customer Reviews
Another fine effort by Mr Kilduff
This is an excellent narrative of the rise of WWI fighter aviation. This is a personal favorite of mine. The text is thoroughly footnoted, and still conveys the feelings of life as a fighter pilot in JG 1. The reader won't find a great deal of focus upon MvR's personal exploits (read Kilduff's fine "Richthofen:Beyond the Legend of the Red Baron") or details of his death. Noteworthy are the two appendices detailing daily claims and losses (Appendix 1) and the organisation chart of the JGs and Jastas (Appendix 2). This book is well worth the price.
