Just one word -EXCELLENT !!
Without doubt, the finest battleship book that I have ever read, and one the best reference books that anyone could ever read. A wealth of information is contained in this one volume, covering everything from the technical side of the classes of ships to individual ship histories, which includes, in most cases, how much the ship was sold for when scrapped !! It has been well worth the long wait for a book of this calibre.
Battleships of World War Two by M.J Whitley
Throughout the Second World War, despite their vulnerability to air and submarine attack, battleships remained at the heart of the fleets - escorting Atlantic convoys, bombarding invasion beaches, playing a dramatic role at Leyte Gulf, the greatest of all sea battles. For the battleship was still the ultimate embodiment of naval might, a combination of awesome firepower and heavy armour superior to any other vessel afloat. Naval power was calculated in terms of battleships.
M.J. Whitley's encyclopedia covers all battleships, of all powers, serving or under construction during World War Two. The design and construction of each class of battleship is followed by full service histories of each ship, together with detailed data including construction, dimensions, power plant, speed, armour, armament and complement. For each class there is a general arrangement plan and elevation, and over two hundred photographs accompany the text. Concise and authoritative, Battleships of World War Two is an excellent reference source to the world's last great generation of fighting battleships.
