David Ellis and his family were missionaries in Indonesia, where they were frequently the target of anti-Western violence. In the many terrifying - and sometimes bizarrely comic - events that befell them, they found that if they held fast to God there was nothing else to fear.

three-dimensional reading
Somebody once said that a good Christian biography is a Bible commentaryof a three-dimensional kind: we see the faithfulness of God to hispromises expounded chapter by chapter through the lives and circumstancesof his people. This is certainly the case with Nothing Else to Fear byDavid Ellis. The book is not a conventional chronological sweep throughits author's life, but a collection of reflections on what it means tolive under the loving care of a sovereign God.
A Book with a 'Kick'.
'Nothing Else to Fear' is a book with a 'kick'. Obviously written by a mature Christian who has followed God's call and found many of the realities of such an adventure.
'Nothing Else to Fear' points the reader to the sovereignty of God in a very practical and down to earth manner.
It is the kind of book that Christians should be reading for guidance, encouragement and challenge. Written from a background of experience in a 'second culture' many of its challenges and answer to these challenges are applicable to any Christian in any culture. A book written with a combination of feeling and reality.
Very helpful!
A great read
Faced with Muslim riots, political upheaval, personal tragedy and physical hardship, one is unable to hold fast to God without a robust understanding of God’s sovereign control of all the earth. David Ellis weaves together anecdote with biblical meditation, allowing the truths of scripture (especially the pivotal Psalm 2) to form the lens through which the world, in all its frightening chaos, is viewed. The book’s title and central theme takes its cue from a hymn based on Psalm 34: “Fear him, ye saints; and you will then Have nothing else to fear: Make you his service your delight, Your wants shall be his care.” This is a book that offers scriptural reflection rather than trite answers, and yet manages to do so in a way that is readable, warm and greatly encouraging. A great read to savour over(nice short chapters!), and one for Christians of all ages and stages.
