Product Description

Cornwall is a proudly individual county, with its own unique culture, cuisine and customs. Its proximity to the Gulf Stream provides a warm climate and many are attracted by the miles of British coast to explore. Rick Stein has been at the forefront of upgrading facilities for tourists and locals alike, and his hometown of Padstow is now famous for its seafood eateries. Add to this the charm of Cornwall's often neglected ancient sites, hidden creeks and isolated villages and it becomes apparent why over 3.5 million domestic tourists holiday here each year. This unique guide is a valuable source of local information, to help visitors get the most out of Cornwall in the time you have; be it a two-week holiday, short break or long weekend. Throughout the book, local people give their recommendations on where to find the best fish and chips, bike ride or secret path to a spectacular view, uncovering the Best of Britain. This guide includes practical information on a range of accommodation, the best places to eat, local festivals, events and activities as well as informing readers about the history, geology and culture of the area, with a 'local heroes' section of famous residents past and present. Informative maps are found throughout the book, including walking and climbing routes and children's activities in the area. The book focuses on what makes this part of the south of England so special: the most magnificent array of golden beaches, precipitous cliffs, smugglers covers and picturesque harbours anywhere in England.

First visit to Cornwall4
Having spent too many years not going to Cornwall because it seemed too long a journey we finally decided to go! We bought this book a couple of weeks before the holiday and read it before we left. It is well written and entertaining giving lots of local information, where to visit, where to eat and where to buy good local food. We particularly liked the local people's views given in each chapter. Probably a bit too much about where to stay as you are likely to have already booked before you buy the book. We'll have it to hand though for our next visit which won't be long as we enjoyed our time in Cornwall so much!

A great buy5
This book is such a useful guide and Lesley Gillilan makes it an easy and entertaining read. The book combines practical information on what to see, where to eat and where to stay with fascinating local insights. I particularly liked the 'local knowledge' sections in which Cornwall residents share what they like best. The only thing that lets this book down is the photography; very dull.

very helpful guide5
This guide was very helpful on holiday. Its simple, clear and sensible approach means that it was easy to use and very informative. I would recommend it to any one visiting Cornwall
