A revolution in radio control aircraft modelling is here. The traditional route to flying an R/C model was to purchase materials (or a kit of parts) and build one's own model. This approach is rapidly disappearing as well-designed and affordable 'Almost Ready To Fly' models dominate the market. This book is a response to the changing market, it aims to provide all the information the budding R/C flyer cannot get from within the packaging of the model he has, or is about to, purchase: model types available; ARTF and RTF, moulded foam, moulded GRP and injection; electric, I.C. powered, gliders and helicopters; getting started; trainers, which ones to buy and why; joining a club - or going it alone; radio equipment; electric power; learning to fly; preventative maintenance and repairs; more advanced ARTF models; and aeromodelling abbreviations and terms. It covers the latest and most exciting development in radio control model flying - off the shelf, out of the box and ready to fly! It provides all the essential information that the instructions in the box don't offer!

From the Inside Flap
The greatest revolution in the flying model aircraft hobby in recent years has been the growth of ARTF (Almost Ready To Fly) kits. They have been responsible for introducing a new breed of aero enthusiasts to the hobby who are unable, or do not have the time, to build model aircraft from plans or traditional kits.
ARTF models now represent 90% of all kit sales, a dramatic increase and indicative of the change in direction of the hobby.
With such a diversity of ARTF model types, power sources and radio control equipment available, the potential purchaser may find it difficult to select the correct model and equipment for their purposes and having made the purchases, to know how to get the best from them.
In this book the very experienced author and modeller, David Boddington, advises on the model types available and where to start, which radio outfits are suitable for your immediate needs and the advantages and limitations of alternative power sources.
This information alone can result in savings of time and money.
ARTF models are mostly well manufactured, but they are capable, with just a little effort, of being improved to give an extended operating life. The methods of carrying out these actions plus general maintenance, are included in this profusely illustrated book. With the scope of ARTF kits being continually increased the author also investigates some of the more advanced products and explores the future of the genre.
This practical and encouraging book is essential reading for all persons involved in the assembly and flying of ARTF model aircraft, an intriguing and exciting hobby.

Customer Reviews
enjoyable reading
With so much information avaiable on the web i expected this book to sum up the available knowledge and present it all in one place, something which david boddington is good at and fully capable of. still it is enjoyable reading and removed some of my apprehensions about ARTF planes. recommended for beginners.
