The best ever Elite to date5
As someone who is very keen on Ottoman history, I sort of felt compelled initially out of duty rather than interest to buy this book. I was pleasantly surprised. David Nicholle manages as usual to dazzle the non-Turkish and non-Arabic reader with much information that they could never encounter. Christa Hook's illustrations are superb. As well as being a guide to a fighting force this is a social history of one of the Ottoman Empire's most important instituions. For modellers it offers a wealth of research and ideas for projects. For wargamers.....beware your army lists got more complicated. However anyone with even a passing interest in affairs Ottoman, would be advised to read this.
