Customer Reviews
An excellent introduction to the principal Celtic myths.
An ideal book for those who have become interested in Celtic myths after seeing the recent TV series (History channel), and would like to read some of them. The book includes abridged translations of many of the principal myths from Ireland, Wales & Scotland, with background information on Celtic culture. The book is beautifully illustrated, with images of Celtic artefacts, and the landscapes where the stories were set. Most of the Irish tales come from the Táin Bó Cuailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), and deal with the great hero Cú Chulainn. The Welsh tales are from the Mabinogion, and include Culhwch & Olwen, Pwyll & Rhiannon, and Peredur, an Arthurian story. The less well-known Breton stories include the Drowned City of Ys (a Celtic Atlantis?) and Conomor & Triphine, with similarities to Bluebeard.
