The story of true idealism.
To those who would harp on about the actions of the men who died with Bobby in 1981, just read the book for what it is. Not the rantings of a right-wing racist and sectarian like those who controlled the state that he gave his life trying to reform. On the contrary, this book represents the thoughts and experiences of a man who gave his life for his ideals. He died for the working men and women of his country (which include loyalists and protestants). The ordinary (and extraordinary) people who encountered the same fate and experiences that he lived through. He gave everything. What did his critics give? Those who have the most give the least, those who have the least give the most. To those anonymous people who categorise him with Timothy McVeigh, I suggest you educate yourself about Irish history before you betray your lack of understanding. If Sands was a psychopathic murderer, then so were Geronimo, Che Guevara, Salvador Allende and Nelson Mandela. This book answers the most important question that nobody is brave enough to ask. WHY?
A Book to Read and to REMEMBER
After I finished this book I found myself crying and It took a long time to recover. It's incredible that in the heart of old Europe an entire and divided people suffer and so much people are ignorant about it (or pretend to be). You, in your confortable home, try to spend a few hours and read these pages.
..how many ears must one man have before he can hear people cry, Yes n how many deaths will it take till he know that too many people have died, Yes n how many times can a man turn his head pretending he just didnt see..
Bobby, you'll never be forgotten.
The most important book that I have ever read.
Bobby Sands: Writings from Prison is the most important book that I have ever read. In my opinion it is the most inspiring testament of courage ever to be put onto paper. Sands vividly describes what it was like to be on the H-Blocks of Long Kesh. His description of the conditions in which these brave men lived and died in would strike a nerve in any person that calls himself human. Humorous and sad at the same time this book changed my whole entire thought process on certain social issues.
